This paper refers to the development of the EU's development policy The examination concerns the impact of the Union's policy on development cooperation on the development policies shaped by the Member States The European development cooperation policy has focused mainly on the cooperation with the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries The ACP-EU Partnership Agreement, signed in Cotonou in 2000, has set the framework for trade relations and cooperation with the EU and the ACP countries
Moreover, the paper discusses how the issue of policy coherence for development has advanced at the international, the European and the national level At the same time, it seeks to highlight the objectives which characterize the development actors, evaluating the degree to which they succeed to promote harmonization It provides a review of the EU developmental policy It assesses the EU's key leadership role as a global actor in trade and assistance to other countries It refers to the legal basis and the objectives of EU's development policy for promoting sustainable development, poverty eradication, etc
The final chapter addresses the Greek development policy in the Balkan.
