Abstract

Cancer is nowadays considered as one of the plagues of modern society and colorectal cancer is one of its most common forms. In the effort of preventing and curing this illness the need to identify the factors that cause colorectal cancer becomes evident. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to this ongoing effort by studying the potential demographic and nutritional factors that may be associated with colorectal cancer. The data needed to conduct this survey were collected by specifically created questionnaires. The available data were studied and statistically analyzed. The analysis was based on categorical and ordinal scales and led to useful conclusions regarding the various factors which can cause the appearance of colorectal cancer. The ones with the greater influence, were subjected to further statistical analysis, via logistic regression and correspondence analysis. Through this analysis it was made possible to identify the factors which, from a statistical point of view, mostly affect the appearance of the illness and therefore have a negative impact on people’s health.
