Abstract
The primary objective of this dissertation is to investigate, at what extent have developed- changed the Shipping loans and the evaluation criteria for the granting of such loans, based on the financial crisis that occurred in 2008 and continues until to date, as well as its consequences in the Shipping sector. Initially, it is attempted to study the evolution of Shipping funding, its particular characteristics and the analysis of Shipping cycles, so as to make clear that all these factors play a crucial role in the determination of a Shipping investment activity and hence a possible financing. In the sequel, there is an extensive reference to the motives of a shipping investment, the particularities of Shipping funding and its forms, concluding that the bank lending is the most traditional and main form of funding in the Shipping sector. To sum up, we examine the assessment criteria for granting a shipping loan and through a hypothetical model, that we analyze in detail, we come to our conclusions on whether the criteria for assessing a loan have changed and which details take into account the Banks in order to approve a possible funding.
