Emotional Intelligence has become increasingly popular as a measure for identifying
potentially effective leaders, and as a tool for developing effective leadership skills.
There is little empirical research that substantiates the efficacy of emotional intelligence
in these areas. A remarkable amount of time, effort, and money has been devoted to the
study of leadership. Despite all this research, there is little agreement about exactly what
leadership is.
Still, people know effective leadership when they see it. And while great leaders may
sometimes be born that way, there are certain traits that great leaders share in common
that anyone can practice and adopt to become more effective. Leadership competencies
depend on many factors such as emotional intelligence, integrity, self- control, selfconfidence,
intelligence, and knowledge of the selective discipline.
The aim of the present paper is to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence
and effective leadership. This paper suggests that feelings play a central role in the
leadership process. More specifically, it is ascertained that emotional intelligence, the
ability to understand and manage moods and emotions in the self and others, contributes
to effective leadership in organizations.
The result indicates that the relationship between leadership style and Emotional
Intelligence is positive and significant, case that is confirmed by the two case studies in
the end of this study.
