The goal of this thesis is the study and research of the business environment of startup compa-nies in Greece, of the way it has evolved during the last years as well as of the interaction between the startup companies and the structures that support entrepreneurship.
To begin with, we analyzed the concept of a startup company and the fundamental factors that determine it as well as the development of entrepreneurship worldwide during the last years. Furthermore, we studied the structures that form the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Those struc-tures are the incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, venture capitals and other initiatives that support entrepreneurial projects. In closing, we present data regarding the development of startup companies and supporting structures in Greece.
In the next section, we present the results of the research that was conducted for the thesis and focuses on the relationship of the startup companies and the rest business ecosystem in Greece. The research addressed 77 startup companies that were founded and developed in Greece the last years. The main areas of the study are the following:
- Recognition of the status of the companies by using questions regarding their activity.
- Study of the business team and of the origins of the idea.
- Participation of the startup companies to supporting structures and venture capitals and rating of them.
- Evaluation of the Greek startup community, registration of the most important obsta-cles and of the activities that take place in universities with the scope to promote en-trepreneurship.
In conclusion, the thesis results were achieved by matching the research findings with the the-oretical information. Those conclusions and the answers of the participants helped us form some suggestions that could improve the present situation, promote the development of startups in Greece and play an important role in improving the efficiency of the supporting structures.
