This paper presents the contribution of the International Labour Organisation-ILO in
improving working conditions in the shipping industry worldwide. It consists of five (5)
Chapters,
The First Chapter presents information for the Greek shipping.
In Chapter Two, is the presentation of the International Labour Organisation-ILO,
which since its inception in 1919, significantly contributed to the multifaceted and
multilayered work on improving the general conditions of work and employment, the
promotion of safety and health conditions workers at work, interventions, studies, etc. It
also shows the effect of particular international shipping issues.
The Third Chapter refers to international organizations working on issues related to
shipping, which promote their actions and contribute to the development of a secure
cooperation environment between states, as well as forming common and stable rules and
regulations with international validity recognition and respect for navigation, the marine
environment, maritime transport, etc.
The fourth chapter analyzes the conditions of employment and working conditions that
are configured in the shipping sector at international and national level.
The fifth chapter analyzes the law of shipping in international, European and national level.
The Sixth Chapter presents the findings and conclusions of this study.
