Shipping cycles and the strategy of the shipping companies
The aim of this paper is to present the importance of shipping cycles in shaping market conditions, according to which companies operating in the industry must make decisions about their movements. Thus, the strategic behavior that companies can follow in order to be able to cope with the stages of a shipping cycle is also presented. With the use of academic literature, strategic options available to a shipping company that could be beneficial in maintaining competitiveness and strengthening its market position will be analyzed. Finally, through the case study that is carried out, the strategic policy of a company operating in dry bulk market regarding the stage of the shipping cycle that is currently underway, as well as the impact of its choices on its financial performance is analyzed for a specific period of time.
