The crisis in the Construction Sector is deep and threatens to get permanent features. This is underlined by the reduction of building permits, the shrinkage of the Investment Program and the significant drop in turnover of all the sectors that cooperate with the Construction Sector.
Therefore, at a time when there are undesirable developments and prevailing bleak forecasts for the whole economy, the analysis of economic progress, as well as the results about the whole construction sector, reveals opportunities and prospects.
The main subject of this thesis is the study of the business opportunities and prospects of the construction sector in Greece. This thesis consists of six chapters and each one of them contributes in its own way, to draw the appropriate conclusions.
Chapter 1 is an introduction to the main subject and purpose of the thesis.
Chapter 2 is an overview of the contribution of the construction sector in the economy of Greece and presents the factors that affect the whole industry.
Chapter 3 is a thorough description of the Construction Industry through the presentation of macroeconomic factors. Furthermore, there is made a comparison of economic figures between Greece and other countries. Finally, there is a description of the current situation of the Construction Sector.
Chapter 4 analyzes the economic development of the sector during the last decade, through charts and mentions some prospects of development. Additionally, there is a presentation of the financial figures of the company on which the study was based, AKTOR S.A.
Chapter 5 presents the answers to the questionnaires which were distributed to engineers working in the company AKTOR S.A. These answers contributed to the research of the prospects of the industry.
Chapter 6 presents the conclusions reached in this thesis, the restrictions that exist and there are made some suggestions for future research.
