This specific research introduces the “actors” of the container market in the Mediterranean Sea. The word actors refers to both the liner shipping companies which transport containerized cargo and to the companies which manage the container terminals in the Mediterranean port industry. The word refers also to the container handling terminals as they are the main pillar of growth in the area. The main question which needed to be solved had to do with what ports contribute more to the development of Mediterranean maritime transport and which companies help in this development. So the purpose of this study is the identification of the strongest players in terms of companies and port-terminals. Finally, the analysis will for start present the shipping companies and the number of their port calls in Mediterranean ports. The analysis of supply and demand for the port industry will follow and at the end there will be one final section with conclusions.
