The aim of this thesis is to present and analyze the contribution of International
Organizations and non-governmental Organizations in the development of Shipping.
Through the presentation of the evolution of International Law and International
Organization, is observed that the shipping occupies an important place in
International Law. The Law of the Sea and International Maritime Law manage to
regulate -with sufficient precision- all issues arising from the continuous development
of the Maritime industry. Important role in the development of the Sector is held by
International Organizations such as IMO, who undertake to create and develop the
institutional framework of Shipping, aiming to serve the constantly raising industry
needs. In this effort non-governmental Organizations also participate though mainly
operate with the aim to serving individual pieces of the Maritime Industry.
