The main objective of this thesis is to examine, besides the health system problems caused by the financial crisis, the organization and operation of the social clinics as innovative providers of free primary health services to those in need and as new, prototype socio-economic structures which emerged during the Greek crisis. Also, to measure the satisfaction of patients in two clinics, The “Metropolitan Social Clinic at Hellinico” and the “Clinic of Social Solidarity at Peristeri”. The first chapter contains a brief presentation of the different health systems and the basic health policy guidelines of the European Union. The second chapter is referred to the evolution and the basic operating characteristics of the health system in Greece. The third chapter approaches the causes of the financial crisis and its consequences on society and also on the health system. The fourth chapter explores the socio-economic characteristics of the social clinics focusing on their purposes, operation activities and organization. An attempt of a critical approach to this phenomenon is included. The fifth chapter includes purpose, data analysis and research results for patient satisfaction of those two Social Clinics. Finally, in chapter six, the main conclusions are drawn.
