This thesis on "Smoking in Greek Cinema" held at the Health Administration Department of the University of Piraeus. The purpose of this work is the study of smoking habits in Greece and more specifically whether smoking can influence through cinema. The following chapters analyze the term "smoking", describing its historical retrospect, the causative factors and the impact it can have on health. Then the term “media” is analyzed, especially cinema, on which our research is based. We describe the advertisement of cigarettes and smoking through both TV, newspaper and cinema. The next chapter discusses the concept of "Greek Cinema". We mention the history of cinema in Greece and whether smoking affected viewers. Finally, we made a research which included 250 Greek movies from 1945 to 2010. We created a questionnaire, collected empirical data and recorded whether the actors were smoking in movies and how this fact could affect viewers.
