The purpose of this diploma thesis is to investigate the viability of a solar photovoltaic power generation system designed to meet the load of a grid-interconnected house, located in the urban area of Athens, in Greece. Firstly, the design and the techno-economic analysis of the photovoltaic power system are carried out using the RETScreen ‘Clean Energy Project Analysis Software’. Next, the methodology of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is applied to evaluate the environmental effects of the residential grid-interconnected photovoltaic power system throughout its entire life cycle, using the SimaPro 7 software. Finally, the obtained results of the techno-economic and environmental analysis are demonstrated and discussed, and interesting trends that could expand this study are also presented.
