Abstract

This work deals with one of the most critical sectors in the maritime industry and specifically to telecommunications through which is a comprehensive presentation and analytical study of systems and applications falling in this area. Initially a brief introduction on the industry and then an overview of the requirements that satisfy the services offered by telecommunications and the rapid improvement of electronic communication systems over the years. Following is a detailed presentation of satellite systems since become initially grasp the context of the regulations as mandatory through SOLAS developed by the IMO. It is being understood that Inmarsat is the main player in satellite communications and competitors are following with variety of packages, services and integrated applications with the goal of seamless communication of the shipping office and the vessel. Having shown extensively satellite systems enter then the presentation of electronic applications supporting shipping services and works, and categorize them by main categories of desktop applications and applications of the ship. Finally there is a feasibility analysis of shipping in relation to telecommunications and essential study tool system of Leontief input-output and input-output breakdown of Greek Statistical Office for 2005.
