The aim of the study is to explore the potential of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for funding health care units which operate in the Central region of Greece, i.e. units operating under the auspices of the Healthcare Management Department of CENTRAL GREECE. The study is structured into five chapters. Chapter 1 presents the theoretical background of Corporate Social Responsibility. CSR concepts and related policies are discussed and CSR dimensions included in corporate strategies are described. Chapter 2 analyses related Greek and international networks. Further, CSR best practices associated with the environmental health and human resources are presented. Chapter 3 discusses the Greek institutional framework for funding public initiatives through CSR resources. Also, a distinction is made between granting and sponsoring. Chapter 4 presents the main characteristics of the Central region of Greece and discusses certain issues concerning demographic, social and economic evolution (transportation, energy, health and education). Special emphasis is given to organizations that employ CSR initiatives. Finally, Chapter 5 explores the potential of matching the needs of Healthcare Management Department of CENTRAL GREECE units with the corporate initiatives undertaken by firms in the region, in the context of CSR. In order to achieve this goal, we take into account the priorities set by respective derived European policies in the health care area, as well as, those from the HealthCare Ministry and the Healthcare Management Department of CENTRAL GREECE.
