The humanity has to confront an unexpected challenge. At the beginning of the 21th century, a great number of women don't give birth by the ordinary way. In countries, where the number of doctors exceeds the number of midwives, the number of cesarian sections is greater compared to other countries. In this case, doctors usually offer the primary care. Such countries are Brazil, China, Taiwan, Greece, Turkey, Italy and other. On the other side, countries with high numbers are these according to recent statistics, in some other countries where the number of midwives is greater than the number of doctors, the cesarian sections are limited in number. Holland, Norway, Sweden. U.S.A., France, Germany, Japan, Australia and New Zeland are some of the countries with an average number of cesarian sections. The purpose of this study is to examine the phenomenon of cesarian sections in Greece. Indeed, cesarian section consists a phenomenon in Greece, since 51% of women giving birth, ends up in a cesarian section. An attempt to explain this phenomenon and answer the question why Greece is an exception of the rule, since a high number of births are registered as cesarian births, is made. The paper starts with a general presentation of the meaning of the cesarian section, the several types, the advantages and disadvantages and an attempt to explain this phenomenon. Moreover, it is examined whether a birth by cesarian section can be followed by a natural birth. This research project includes information provided by 50 women, who have given birth by the cesarian section. The results of the survey are compared with the theory developed in this field.
