Health and Safety at work is considered as a determinant factor of enterprises' growth and consequently in the economic development oi a country. Meanwhile, the severity of the prevailing situation globally, coming out from the recent statistics publication of accidents at work, occupational diseases and their resulting costs, motivated us in the present research, to outline the current situation in our country. From this perspective, the legal framework and the prevailing situation in public services, public utility organizations and social insurance funds, concerning the data collection and recording of accidents and diseases at work, is outlined first. Secondly, the methodologies of the collection and recording systems that are proposed by the European Union are briefly described. In consequence, an evaluation of the existing system is attempted and any inadequacies concerning the structure or the organization or of any other kind are detected. Finally, proposals arc suggested, for the development and realization of a system, capable of providing the data necessary for planning the national strategy, in terms of prevention policy for accidents at work and occupational diseases.
