The subject essay deals with the sea safety, which is threatened by perils for the vessel, people on board and the cargo itself. Recorded the necessity of setting principles which will be able to prevent dangerous situations and maintain a sufficient level of safety. Firstly, we study the importance of Goal Based Standards methodology in defining standards for the design and construction of ships and we analyze the application of the methodology in bulk carriers. Furthermore, we explore the Formal Safety Assessment methodology which aims to identify, evaluate and face sea threats. For better understanding of subject methodology, we analyze its application to LNG carriers which bare higher level of risk. In conclusion, we investigate said methodologies for any failing and we present some future issues which may need further evaluation and update.
