The present Thesis consists of a bibliographical review, which draws information from books, studies and articles of Greek as well as international origin, which relate with the science of health economics, pharmacoeconomics and generally the politics adopted in pharmaceutical therapy in Greece. Its main aim is to give the reader a characterization of how the pharmaceutical sector is shaped and how it functions in our country. More specifically, the pharmaceutical market and its particular features, from the aspect of what pharmaceutical companies supply as well as the aspect of demand by patients and consumers. Pharmaceutical politics, which are applied by each institutional framework are clarified while reference is also made to the need for production in the field of innovation and in the field of Research and Development so as to manufacture new, safe and effective products. The subject of increased spending in pharmaceutical therapy and the attempt to decrease it is also formulated. The shape of the present situation in our country is presented after the application of financial measures which aim to reduce health spending, the general problems faced by the sector, while there is brief reference of the international state of affairs. The Thesis concludes, with a critical review and a formulation of deductions which have occurred from the existing bibliography intending a complete presentation of the particular subject matter.
