Since the ancient times, societies had realized that each activity can be more effective and beneficial, through cooperation. Due to industrial development, there have been developed horizontal and vertical relations through businesses with financial and geographical / national criteria. Within this exact frame, Dr. Michael Porter introduced the theory of business clustering, during the ‘90s. This cluster concept has become a part of politics, academic institutions and industries, as well as part of every economic field worldwide, becoming beneficial for involved members. In Shipping industry, maritime clusters were established since 2006, with quite many successful examples to show today around the world. In Greece, the nation with the largest merchant fleet and the longest past history in maritime professions, shipping industry proves to be very important for the national economy and society, though shipping industry is not organized in typical and formal cluster organizations. Greek shipbuilding industry feels very interesting to be analyzed, although generating doubts of becoming a well-organized maritime cluster in the future.
