This thesis has as a main goal the presentation, analysis, and comparative evaluation of health systems in Australia and the USA. These two countries are of particular interest in terms of the way they operate, they are funded and have their monetary resources to cover the health care needs and health services. In addition, Australia and the USA are two countries that stand out for their reforms efforts which have as a goal the improvement of the health section and health services which are offered to citizens.
Initially, in the first chapter of the present thesis, an analysis is made about the major demographics data of the two countries as well as a reference of the principal economic data.
Then, in the second chapter of the present thesis, an analysis is made about the major reforms that have contributed to the configuration mode of the operation of the health systems of the USA and Australia.
Thereafter, in the third chapter of the present thesis, an explanation and a comparative evaluation of the way the healthcare system of the USA and Australia is made for its operation and its funding. Specifically, the health system in the USA is based on the liberal model and focuses primarily on private insurance. The financing of private insurance is mainly achieved through private sources such as employer contributions and contributions of individuals. At the same time, apart from the private insurance, also exists the social security through which the health needs of vulnerable populations are covered. In contrast, the health system in Australia is a mix of public and private sector. It is based on the Beveridge model and its funding is mainly achieved through taxation (income of government budget). Also, very important is considered to be the fact that health care is national, which means that all citizens have access to health services.
Finally, in the last chapter of the present thesis, a comparative analysis of health expenditures in Australia and the USA is made, showing the differences and the reasons for these divergences.
