Abstract

This thesis contains five basic units relating to the International system of transportation, as a whole and at the parameters which are involved and characterize the individual developments in Europe, the applications, the functions, the practices, the problems that occur during their exercise, and also the prospects for their resolution. In the first unit, there are definitions and terminologies relating to logistics, the intermodal and in general the “grid” of combined transport. The second unit refers to the actions, destinations, the course, the transport demand, the developments of modal split, the environment, the “White Bible”, the revitalization of the railways, the quality of the road transport and the waterway and maritime transport. In the third unit, are analyzing the combined transports, the logistics freight transport in the European “arena”, the institutional framework that governs them, the initiatives of the European Commission for their development, the evolution of the Motorways of the Seas and also the programs PACT and MARCO POLO, as well the withdrawal of the second. The fourth unit includes the combined transportations and the logistics in Greek reality and also the individual analysis of each mode of transportation. It is also described the case of Thriasio, presents the SWOT analysis of transport modes and in the end there is a reference to social issues and there are listed concerned financial data. In the fifth and last unit, are included information and suggestions of the relevant Ministries: (Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, Marine and Aegean), but also recommendations from private operators and other studies. Furthermore, there are quoted statistical distribution data of fund programs financed in the context of actions of ESPA (2007-2013). It is also, drew the conclusions of the analysis of this thesis and pointed out the important need of taking initiatives, by the part of all the involved communities, private and public, in order to face the problems of such an important and exchange section like the transport and launch an array of measures and decisions for their eternal improvement and development.
