Tourism is one of the greater, if not the greatest, sources of income in Greece and keeps becoming more important. With small or major fluctuations, tourism contributes importantly to the prosperity of the country, being the greater national industry, especially after the end of the second World War. During the past years, there has been an evolution of various alternative forms of tourism, within which health tourism is included and is one of the most contemporary forms of vacation. In the past years, there has been a trend to improve our way of life and our health, especially whenever that can be done in combination with recreation. Health tourism is devided in three individual sectors, which are healing, wellness and medical tourism. Upto this day health tourism is not widely known, but is as important for the greek economy as all other forms of tourism, as with it’s beneficial results there is a great capability of attracting even more tourism. With this paper I tried to refer to some important concepts for our country and to analyse as best as I could and assist in the understanding and in the familiarising with the particular alternative form of tourism in Greece, despite the poor bibliography.
