The present thesis aims to explore the Perioperative nursing educational needs in specific skills and areas of the Perioperative nursing. The subtle part that the nurse plays in the operative environment and the leading attitude that the nurse has to show by managing different specialties and scientific teams at the OR, impose a need for training and education in multiple and various subjects. Operating Room nurses’ education and training was found and evolved side by side with the evolution of the operating room and surgery. It is a continuous process that comes together with the daily practice. It starts with the introduction of the freshly-joined nurse to operating rooms and this routine (practice) follows him or her at first at an intensive pace, so as to master the sterile technique and gradually to be able to be trained in all kinds of surgical specialties. Thus, providing the remaining skills required for professional maturation and evolution to the nursing hierarchy. The aforementioned can be achieved with the use of various techniques and methods; especially that of the clinical mentor and trainer, and according to the general principles of the nursing education. The research part of this study is for nurses of Tertiary education and attempts through a closed-end questionnaire to detect the educational needs of operating nurses in public hospitals. It concerns specific areas of Perioperative Practice skills, as it is internationally described and it aims to define the necessary standards that nurses themselves have granted to these areas. These areas are the following: A. Technique skills and operating room work-flow, B. Research and evaluation skills, C. Skill set to provide immediate, competent care to patient, D. Management and administrative skills. After collecting the questionnaires, a statistical analysis of the results was made by correlating the answers to years of service, the existence or not of an organized educational system, the employment classification and academic level. The chapter named Conclusion – Suggestions provides the analysis of the results based on the processed data of those who took part in the survey and a try to offer respective solutions.
