This thesis, on the theoretical part, aims to explore the concept of communication, its forms as well as the barriers which might be present. The thesis's main objectives are the study of communication between patients and nurses, the role of the health personnel and how much it affects the behaviour of both the patients and the nurses. In addition, it focuses on the importance of communication between the nurses and the patients with terminal illnesses, specifically with cancer. The research covers all stages, from hospitalization, treatment and rehabilitation until the final stage. For this reason, the research was carried out at "St. Savvas" Anticancer Hospital, Athens, Greece. The primary data were obtained via the completion of one hundred structured questionnaires, consisting of a total of 28 questions each. Furthermore, each questionnaire was categorized into 2 thematic sections. Each section of the questionnaire refers to one of the key concepts covered by the topic of this thesis. The data collection was followed by their process using the statistical package SPSS 20.0 (factor analysis, correlations, stepwise regression). Communication is clearly a vital clinical skill that may play a significant role in patient quality of life.
