The objective of this paper discusses the problem of marine harbor pollution. Within the frame of this thesis, an attempt is made to seek the causes of marine pollution due to the operations of the port. The paper illustrates the International, European and National legislation that regulates ports and environment. Moreover, the economic dimension of marine pollution, as well as the implementation of the Environmental Management Systems is examined. To reinforce the aim of the paper, case studies of Greek ports have been conducted to outline the ways of handling contamination by the ports. Following the presentation of the results from the research, suggestions are put forward to solve the marine and environmental problems.
