Abstract
The content of subject thesis is the presentation, analysis and comparison of the provisions and clauses of the four charter parties SHELLVOY 6, BPVOY4, ExxonMobil VOY2005 and TANKERVOY87 used in the voyage charter of the crude and product oil carriers. Thesis starts with a historical retrospect of the oil trade starting from the post-war period until our days and continues with the analysis of the tanker fleet worldwide and its main characteristics: the structural and technical characteristics of the tankers, the classification of the fleet based on the transported products and the vessel’s size and age, as well as the basic routes and freight rates. Following the above analysis, reference is made to the maritime industry and its basic differentiations, as well as an analysis of the characteristics of the charter market, the types of charter-parties and the National Organizations, the legislation and the institutional rules that coact the laws of voyage charter of the oil carriers. The characteristics and the procedure of accomplishing a voyage charter for an oil carrier are analyzed in a separate chapter, where extensive reference is made to the special provisions and clauses of the relevant charter-parties. The last chapter of this thesis is dedicated to the comparison of the subject standard charter-parties, followed by general conclusions and comments.
