This thesis is a historical approach to human capital and efficiency of education. We examined the factors that affect the human capital and development, referring to the micro and macro economic environment. The study is focused on the Cyclades islands, whose features are the geographical and ad¬ministrative fragmentation, the small and medium-sized islands, the frequently recurring conditions of life, the up to complete isolation of the islands and the significantly limited manpower. We studied the population of Cyclades in relation to the natural environment, its size and density, its demographic and geographic characteristics. He also studied the natural and migratory movement of population. In addition, we studied the level of education and the economic and social development of Cyclades. Specifically, we analyzed the social and economic characteristics of the popula¬tion and the economic environment of the county. In the end of the study, we present an original research, done at the high schools of the pre¬fecture of Cyclades during the school year of 2004-2005. Based on the data of this research, we studied the demographic characteristics of the students and their interaction with the corresponding characteristics of their parents. We also examined the interaction between the wishes and opinion views of the parents and the educational characteristics of the stu¬dents. We performed a comparative study between the characteristics of Greek and immi¬grant population. We studied the relationship between the school performance of the chil¬dren with the performance of their parents and grandparents. Finally, we did a study on the relationship between the level of the occupation of parents, with their educational and demographic characteristics, using the method of multinomial logistic regression.
