Abstract

This thesis gives an overview on the piracy incidents in the Gulf of Aden and the Straits of Malacca, if this phenomenon can be confronted and gives an overview on the policy of EU and International Organizations in relation to the confrontation of piracy. In the following pages, it will be argued, in the first place, the geographical position of both the area of the Gulf of Aden and the Straits of Malacca. Another section of the research gives an outline of the reasons why pirates attack in the above areas and if there are any other areas that are challenged by attacks. In addition, there is an analysis on specific cases that show the way pirates in the Gulf of Aden and the Straits of Malacca behave, as well as if there are any preventive measures for the confrontation of piracy and what measures should be taken in case the pirates get on board. Another fact for covering is to see if piracy seems to be a phenomenon that can be confronted. Finally, the dissertation deals with the results and conclusions that have occurred from the research and study of piracy incidents in the Gulf of Aden and the Malacca Straits. The dissertation is the result of the research and analysis of information that was collected, mainly by using sources on the Internet. It is significant to be mentioned that this kind of information is being currently updated and that is why it is more preferable than the bibliography in this thesis.
