The purpose of this diploma dissertation is to investigate and indicate the interdependence between transportation and economic growth. In the two first chapters this two-way interaction between these two factors is being investigated, resulting with some conclusions about the macroeconomics and microeconomics of a country. In the next chapters this interaction is being further analyzed for each one of the various modes of transportation, with an emphasis placed for the shipping sector and ending up with specific solutions that can maximize the benefits of the transportation on the macroeconomic factors of Greece and also some other solutions that can minimize the negative environmental consequences. The relation between these two factors, as we can see it in this paper, is really obvious in different ways but the basic question that is raised is which type of transportation finally and in which occasions can result the best output of the economy with the least negative impacts for the society.
