This thesis presents the "5 forces theory" of Michael Porter and examines whether it can be applied in the liner port industry. The question which is attempted to be answered is whether the theory of 5 forces can be used as a tool for the analysis of the micro-environment of the industry. In the first part of the paper is presented the model of 5 forces and the criticisms made in connection with this model. In the second part of the paper is attempted the analysis of the liner port industry, of the port operators and its clients and is examined whether the 5 forces model of Porter can be applied in the liner port industry. The methodology used is the analysis and synthesis.
