Abstract
This dissertation examines the enactment and application of vessels’ documents and certificates, required and optional, which must be carried on board every vessel and especially tankers. These maritime documents have been dictated throughout several international conventions, where security, quality and effective operation of sea transport and trading were the main points of interest. By examining this interesting topic, I clarify the importance of these documents and the background of their issuance. Data used have been collected by maritime law books, maritime organizations’ reports and shipping companies. This dissertation contains a detailed presentation of these documents and certificates, as well as investigates simultaneously the available margins for improvement of the procedures in accordance with the technological progress of our days.
