Mortality in Greece has undergone significant changes in recent years. Since the late 19th century improvements in the socio-economic and living conditions of the population resulted in notable increase in the life expectancy, particularly in the 1920s and the past war-era. In the 50’s the life average expectancy in Greece was approximately 56 years, while the last decade’s mortality rates have been decreasing monoticlally. The purpose of this study is to investigate quantitative relationships between socio-economic changes and changes in life expectancy in Greece during 1991- 2001. The analysis is focused on the Greek (Kapodistrias Plan) using multiple linear regression methods. For the analysis of the spatial structure of mortality has been taken into consideration the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) in order to identify the counties that outbreaks high/low mortality rates and the factors that caused that.
