According to recent scientific studies (Lyridis 2005, Mc Lellan 2006, Brown 2006, Spyriopoulos, Theotokas, 2007) administration systems in shipping are being developed continuously regarding two aspects. Firstly, using modern methods of design programs and measurement of performance and results (Ζαμπέτα 2010) and secondly with the adoption of main factors of corporate governance as defined by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD 2004a, 2004b, Bhagat 2007, Zampeta at al 2010b). As per prescriptive framework of the Organization, the fundamentals of corporate governance as developed in first stage on 1999, later on 2004 and finally on 2006 have been approved from countries of OECD as well as from some other countries. The fundamentals constitute one basic tool for the improvement of the legal, institutional, prescriptive framework of corporate governance and are focused not only in financial matters but in matters of organization and administration of listed companies in international stock of exchange including shipping companies. These developments constitute part of this present scientific research. Especially, the use of modern methods of calculation of the performance and targeting of the results (Zampeta 2010a) and the factors of corporate governance have been included in the questions of one structured questionnaire for executive officers of shipping companies for the period 2011-2015 in order to verify the importance that the executive officers assign in these developments and the likely future adjustment of the Greek shipping companies in the herein-below characteristics. The main aim is to investigate how corporate governance initiatives as well as modern management systems have affected the Greek shipping industry and if these developments have improved the attitudes and the economic performance of the industry in question.
