The purpose of this paper is the study of climate change and its consequences on ecosystem, on national and international security. It also studies the notion of sustainable development and its correlation with the phenomenon of climate change, as unique solution at this problem which threatens our planet and humanity as a whole. At the first chapter the atmospherical phenomenons that affect climate change, the atmospherical pollution and its main causes are analytically described. At the second chapter, the environmental consequences from increasing demand of energy, especially by the new emerging economies, are studied. The chapter finishes with the presentation of the present situation of energy in Greece, its policy concerning energy and specialized suggestions for the protection of climate. The third chapter includes the predictions of the German Council on Climate Change (WBGU) concerning its consequences at national and international security. The threats that climate change can induce are reported, as well as the regions of the planet that are expected to be affected the most. Finally, as an example of the extent of the threat that climate change can cause, the case of border management of water resources is mentioned - one of the most important international defy in security level for the prevention of conflicts between neighboring countries. At the last chapter, the notion and the importance of sustainable development for the confrontation of climate change is analyzed. Finally, the extent of environmental diplomacy is presented, as well as the necessity of its incorporation in terms of foreign policy of governments all over the world.
