The current study examines the ways in which coastal areas are managed, from an economic, social and environmental point of view in the context of sustainable growth. The first chapters focus on the development of general principles and application of a program of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). An attempt is also made to present a comprehensive reference on the challenges facing sustainable management in coastal areas within the European Union. Furthermore, data based on the way coastal areas are managed in Greece, taking into account parameters such as geomorphology, biodiversity, legal issues and social matters is presented. Finally, an extensive analysis is carried out, for the case of sustainable tourism in the Island of Corfu, taking into consideration two interviews that depict the reality along with the prevailing social-economic facts of the island in within the context of coastal sustainability.
