The ship-broker, either representing a charterer or a ship owner, undertakes the location of the most suitable occasion for chartering and negotiates her terms, leading to a binding contract between the two parts, the charter party. His work is not simple, brings big responsibilities and requires a lot of abilities in order to be successful. The present thesis intends the investigation of the ship-brokering profession. Initially the role and the nature of the ship-broker’s work as well as the skills they should possess in order to be successful are analyzed, along with the responsibilities this profession holds. Also, a categorisation of ship-brokers is attempted. Afterwards, the role of the ship-broker is presented, through a case-study. Furthermore, a research on Greek ship-broker’s companies is presented and the conduct of conclusions, with regard to the age and education of workers in ship-broker offices, as well as tendencies for activation of Greek ship-broker offices more generally, is attempted.
