Abstract
Living conditions in terms of amenities, number of rooms, density, etc. constitute welfare indicators and reflect, to some extent, the prevailing socio-economic conditions in a population. The purpose of the present study is to describe, at district level, the housing conditions based on the 2001 census of population in Greece, and to group the districts according to these indicators. Initially, the census data were analyzed, in order to present the living conditions in Greece. Subsequently, using the Ward and K-Means methods of Multivariate Statistical Analysis, the districts were clustered into homogeneous groups. Finally, the available socioeconomic indicators (income, employment, education, life expectancy) were presented and analyzed in relation to the housing conditions in each of these. The result of the analysis, based on housing, was the separation of the districts into three groups. The classification of the districts in each group was satisfactory enough, to draw safe conclusions.
