This thesis tried to search through and show, all parameters concerning freight rates that lead to cyclical fluctuations of them. Shipping cycles are a complicated and a hard to deal with recurrent phenomenon, which is closely connected with the shipping industry and the freight rate market. The case of shipping cycles keeps concerning many analysts, since the turn of the century. In an international and continually developing environment, ship demand and ship supply change, due to many factors such as global economy, technology, developing markets, wars, embargoes, psychology of investors, ship-owners, and others. Cycles come as an effect of the market mechanism under which ship demand and ship supply are not in balance. So cycles act as correcting mechanism of the imbalance of the shipping market.
