The rapid rise of internet of things (IoT) applications has introduced billions of interconnected devices, creating significant challenges in ensuring data confidentiality, integrity and device authentication. Traditional security mechanisms often rely on secure storage of cryptographic keys that can be vulnerable to physical attacks, cloning and key extraction, particularly in resource-constrained IoT environments. To address these challenges, physical unclonable functions have emerged as a promising hardware solution that generates cryptographically useful information while being resistant to the aforementioned attacks. This work presents the design and implementation of a Ring Oscillator (RO) PUF key generator based on the design proposed in [1]. The proposed architecture produces cryptographic keys based on a challenge-response pair mechanism, combined with post-processing to ensure uniqueness and reproducibility under various environmental conditions. Along with the hardware implementation of the key generator, this work also includes a software interface implemented in the processing system of the used board. Furthermore, a set of evaluation scripts and custom tools is also presented as part of this work.
