The rapid integration of artificial intelligence into the modern workplace constitutes one of the most significant disruptions of our time. Although new artificial intelligence systems offer unprecedented capabilities, their integration into work is not merely a technical issue, but a profound social and psychological challenge. As employees attempt to adapt to the new digital reality, intense emotional reactions frequently emerge, including technostress and anxiety regarding the potential dehumanization of their work. Traditionally, researchers have interpreted technology acceptance strictly rational, primarily by applying the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which focuses on the perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of a system. Contemporary literature, however, recognizes that decisions regarding technology use are significantly influenced by emotions, rather than by rational considerations alone.
The purpose of this thesis is to combine two theoretical models, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Trait Emotional Intelligence (Trait EI), as assessed through the TEIQue-SF psychometric tool, in order to investigate the role of emotional intelligence in the acceptance and intention to use artificial intelligence tools by educators. The results of the quantitative research, conducted with a sample of secondary education teachers from schools in Athens, confirmed that emotional intelligence is a strong predictor of the acceptance of artificial intelligence technologies. Thus, digital transformation is not solely a technocratic matter, but a complex emotional transition. Therefore, there is a clear need for the emotional empowerment of employees and the development of digital emotional intelligence alongside technological literacy, in order to ensure the successful and sustainable integration of artificial intelligence into education.
