Abstract
The present thesis aims to develop a comprehensive geospatial multi-criteria evaluation model to identify the most suitable locations for establishing green hydrogen production facilities in Greece. The proposed methodology combines Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), integrating technical, energy-related, environmental, and spatial planning criteria derived from the international literature. The geospatial datasets are organized into thematic layers and normalized, leading to the generation of a spatial suitability map. The results identify areas with high suitability for green hydrogen production facilities, characterized by high renewable energy potential, adequate availability of water resources, proximity to energy infrastructure, and limited environmental or spatial planning constraints. The resulting suitability map constitutes a comprehensive decision-support tool that can contribute to strategic energy planning and the rational site selection of future investments. Overall, this study addresses a significant research gap in the Greek context by proposing a reproducible, scientifically robust methodological framework support the sustainable development of the green hydrogen economy.
