This master thesis investigates the determinants affecting provider choice among private health insurance enrollees in Greece, within a healthcare system characterized by high out-of-pocket payments (33%). Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional methodology (N=200) and statistical analysis via STATA, the study examines how insurance coverage influences patient decision-making.
The findings identify "Trust in healthcare professionals" (4.86/5) and "Modern technological equipment" (4.84/5) as the primary drivers for selecting a provider, significantly outweighing financial incentives. Through Chi-square tests and Logistic Regression (Logit), it was demonstrated that income is not a statistically significant predictor (p=0.126), suggesting that private insurance acts as an "equalizer," facilitating access regardless of the insured’s financial status. The overwhelming preference for private clinics (83.3%) is primarily driven by service speed and perceived inefficiencies in the public sector. The thesis concludes with policy recommendations focusing on transparency of quality indicators and the digital transformation of health services to further empower patients.
