The disruptive technological developments characterizing 21st-century digital commerce are
unsettling the boundaries between distinct legal branches. The need for a holistic and
interdisciplinary approach has become imperative, as contemporary legal issues require
unified interpretation and treatment. In the modern digital ecosystem, the accumulation,
processing, and specific uses of vast volumes of personal data reveal a dual reality: data
functions both as a factor of market power and as a means of exercising abusive pressures,
with direct consequences for market structure and the fundamental rights of European
citizens. Consequently, this master’s thesis focuses on the dynamic intersection of two fields
of EU law: competition law and personal data protection law. Legal dogmatic methodology is
selected as the most appropriate method for the analysis and interpretation of legal rules
and recent decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the European
Commission, and national Supervisory Authorities.
