This master’s thesis examines the phenomenon of skill gaps within organizations and explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their identification and management. The study investigates the divergence in perceptions between line managers and employees regarding required and available skills, while also examining the factors that influence the intention to use AI tools and the willingness to engage in upskilling and reskilling initiatives.
A quantitative research design was employed using a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 102 participants (27 line managers and 75 employees). Data were analyzed using SPSS. The results indicated no statistically significant difference between required and available technical skills, whereas a significant gap was identified in soft skills (p < .001). Moreover, perceived usefulness and perceived reliability of AI were found to significantly predict the intention to use AI tools. In addition, perceived skill gaps were positively associated with the intention to participate in upskilling and reskilling programs.
The findings highlight the potential of AI as a supportive mechanism for effective skill gap management in contemporary organizations.
