This thesis examines the role of energy diplomacy within the BRICS countries and analyzes how the 2024–2025 enlargement of the bloc reshaped its geopolitical and energy dynamics. The study explores the ways in which BRICS member states use energy resources, investments, infrastructure projects, and multilateral cooperation as instruments of foreign policy, economic development, and strategic autonomy.
Through a combination of discourse analysis, comparative case studies, and quantitative indicators, the research highlights the different energy strategies of the founding members — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — as well as the strategic importance of the new members, including Iran, the UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia.
In conclusion, the thesis argues that BRICS has evolved from an economic acronym into an increasingly influential geopolitical and energy coalition, representing a heterogeneous group of states pursuing strategic autonomy, diversified partnerships, and greater influence within global governance structures.
