This quantitative study investigates the relationship between financing channels and the adoption of sustainable practices among Greek small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on sustainable finance. The aim is to capture SMEs’ sustainability performance through a composite sustainability index and to examine whether—and to what extent—key financing sources (internal funds, bank lending, and national/EU resources such as ESPA programmes) are associated with or statistically predict sustainability. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire administered through Google Forms between 22/10/2024 and 17/11/2024, based on a sample of 57 SMEs. The analysis employed descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, group difference tests (t-tests/ANOVA), and linear regression models (Enter and Stepwise). Findings indicate a relatively high level of sustainability adoption, strong reliance on internal financing, and notable use of EU funding, while bank lending is less prevalent. Importantly, the financing–sustainability link is not uniform: bank lending emerges as the only statistically significant predictor of the sustainability index, and the relationship is negative. The main barrier reported by SMEs is the high cost of adopting sustainable practices.
