Abstract
This paper examines the transition from the SIRE 1.0 inspection system, which was implemented for over 20 years, to the upgraded SIRE 2.0 introduced by the OCIMF (Oil Companies International Marine Forum). SIRE constitutes a globally recognized tool for assessing the safe operation and maintenance of tankers, with the primary objective of mitigating risks within the maritime industry. Through a comparative analysis, this study explores the fundamental changes between the two versions, emphasizing the role of the crew, which is required to be more proactive and accountable under the renewed framework. The paper outlines their structural differences and illustrates how the new SIRE 2.0 system enhances responsibility, training, and the evaluation of the human factor onboard the vessel.
