The global shift toward a more sustainable energy model, emphasizing renewable sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, has emerged as a defining challenge in contemporary geopolitics. The Eastern Mediterranean, a region of strategic importance and rich in energy resources, lies at the heart of a complex web of issues linked to the ongoing energy transition. This study explores the geopolitical dimensions of this process, focusing on maritime jurisdiction disputes, regional rivalries, and the influence of extra-regional actors such as the United States, the European Union, and other major powers. In parallel, it examines opportunities for enhanced cooperation through institutional initiatives, cross-border energy networks, and the adoption of technological innovations to promote energy security and regional stability. The methodological framework is based on a systematic review of the literature combined with an analysis of current geopolitical and energy-related developments, aiming to produce comprehensive insights. The findings indicate that although tensions and competition may hinder progress, shared interests and the creation of cooperative frameworks offer significant potential for a smooth and mutually beneficial transition.
