This thesis presents the design and development of “HelpMe – HelpYou”, a comprehensive web-based information system aimed at supporting cancer patients and their families. The project is positioned within the field of eHealth platforms, focusing on the enhancement of accessibility, self-management, and psychosocial empowerment through digital technologies.
The system’s architecture was defined based on the operational needs of the “Association of Cancer Patients KEFI of Athens”, leading to the implementation of a modular and scalable application. The platform supports user registration and management, submission and tracking of requests for social and psychological services, along with administrative control for staff members. It was developed using React, Node.js, Express, and PostgreSQL, integrating secure authentication, role-based access control (RBAC), and compliance mechanisms aligned with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The findings highlight the significance of digital systems as supportive infrastructures in oncological care, while emphasizing their potential to improve coordination, data integrity, and user engagement in non-profit healthcare organizations. The prototype serves as a “proof of concept” for future expansion toward human-centered, interoperable eHealth solutions.
